In 2008, O2Compost worked with STAR (Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding) whose mission is: “To foster personal growth and achievement by providing educational, recreational and physically challenging therapeutic experiences using horse related activities for persons with disabilities.”  Several of the STAR volunteers (husbands, fathers, brothers, etc.) worked with O2Compost to construct a 6-bay compost system to process the manure from 25 horses. Their efforts to market their finished compost have been wildly successful. They receive donations from STAR participants as well as gardeners from the neighboring community and they have a perpetual waiting list, selling their compost as fast as they can produce it. Donations go directly to the general fund, resulting in a sustainable fundraiser for the organization.
