Amboy Compost Facility

Syracuse, NY

O2Compost worked closely with the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) to develop a large-scale food waste pilot project at the Amboy Compost Facility. The focus of this project was to demonstrate the viability of composting using the aerated static pile method in extreme weather conditions. The project was closely monitored by OCRRA staff as well as the facility of Cornell University. This pilot project was very successful, leading to the construction of a full-scale aerated 8-bay compost facility sized to process 25,000 tons of food waste per year. The Amboy Compost Facility was instrumental in dramatically increasing the diversion rate of both food and yard waste materials from Onondaga County and the surrounding area.
