Walla Walla Community College

Walla Walla, WA

Dave S. is Director of the Water & Environmental Center of the Water Resources and Engineering Dept. He received grant money for Walla Walla Community College that was allocated for farm-based waste management and energy conservation. Those funds were used to construct an O2Compost Micro-Bin system which composts pre-consumer food waste from the campus culinary program and cafe. WWCC also implemented a free-standing aerated static pile system for grape pomace from the campus enology and viticulture program. The finished compost goes back into the culinary club's food garden beds and into the campus landscape beds. Dave believes aerated composting "to be the most efficient and cost effective way to manage our waste streams. It takes practice, but is worth the effort."
