Quebec Benchmark

Sainte-Adele, Quebec

Located in the Laurentians hills north of Montreal, this O2Compost Benchmark system composts manure and small shavings (imported by the semi-truck load from Alabama) from two horses. "The structure is very well built for Quebec conditions, meaning the foundations are sunk below freezing level, around 6 to 8 feet. It's a bunker that will stand up to accidental bumps from tractors, and our winters. We dump from behind either from wheelbarrows or buckets. It also has a sloped metal lip between the concrete in front of the boxes for simple tractor cleaning." Although there have been some challenges keeping the sytem hot in the "deepest darkest months of winter", Byron R. and Genevieve A. say "the boxes are beautiful and the system works wonderfully."
