Notre Dame College

South Euclid, OH

This O2Compost Benchmark system was recommended by the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District. Notre Dame College received a grant from CCSWD to purchase/construct the system to be used by the "Campus Composters" - a student-initiated collaboration between the Biology Dept. and Business Division focusing on stewardship, sustainability, and social entrepreneurship. The student group composts pre-consumer food waste from the cafeteria (about 30 gallons per day) along with yard waste (grass clippings and wood chips). The finished compost will be distributed to the campus community garden (NDC Grows) and to local community gardens in South Euclid. Campus Composters hopes to one day expand their composting program to include some fee-based businesses and residences.
