Agatha M. composts the manure and fine pine shavings from three horses, as well as the bedding from her chicken coop (a mixture of different shavings and chopped straw). The finished compost is used on the pastures in the fall and the rest is sold to a local landscaping company. Agatha says this system is the best solution to keep your barn and yard clean and free of smell. The project was supported by Conservation Halton and she has been nominated for the Hamilton-Halton Watershed Stewardship Program Award which recognizes landowners who care for the natural features of their property and watershed.
